Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults & Rite of Christian Initiation of Children

Each year on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil,  thousands are baptized into the Catholic Church in the United States. Parishes welcome these new Catholics through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC).

RCIA is an opportunity for any adult (and their family members) who wish(es) to receive the Sacraments and become Catholic to learn about the Catholic Faith and grow in community with us. RCIC is an opportunity for any child who wishes to become Catholic to learn about the Catholic Faith and receive the Sacraments. Those in RCIA/C will receive the Sacraments of Baptism (if not already baptized), First Reconciliation (if already baptized), First Eucharist, and Confirmation.

2. Catechumen

Catechumen is the word the Church uses for someone who is praying and studying about becoming Catholic. We begin to discuss more in depth the teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church. Last, you complete your initiation into the Catholic Church through…

3. Receiving the Sacraments

Typically done at the Mass called the Easter Vigil, Catechumens receive the Sacraments and become Catholic. This is a huge celebration that the whole community shares in with you. It's a beautiful Mass to welcome you home to the Church and celebrate this new life.
